XPress Silent Installation Instructions Win and OS X

XPress Silent Install for Mac OS X

The XPress software can be installed silently (without displaying any dialogs) with the following optional actions:

  • Automatic activation using:
    • License ID & Password
    • IP Site License ID
  • Managing "Check for updates automatically on program startup” feature behavior.

 

END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT

Before using the silent installation method please review the End User License Agreement (EULA) for the software, which is found on page 5 of this document. The EULA acceptance screen will be suppressed during a silent installation, however, this does not render the EULA null and use of the application is still covered under the EULA.

 

SILENT INSTALLATION

To perform the silent installation of the software you need to use a special script named install.sh. This script can be found on the distribution disk image (DMG file). By default, it performs the installation using the installer defaults without presenting any user dialog boxes. To install XPress silently you need to use Terminal application.

  1. Run Terminal.app
  2. Navigate to the XPress folder:
  3. Run installer script with elevated rights:

 

MANAGING AUTOMATIC UPDATES

If you want to change behavior of the "Check for updates automatically on program startup" option, then uncomment corresponding line in the following section:

 

AUTOMATIC ACTIVATION

The XPress Application must be activated on each workstation where it is installed. You will receive license data of one of the following license types:

  • License ID and Password from Recordex USA with your camera.
  • IP Site License ID.

For large installations a site License ID and Password will be issued, so that all workstations can be activated using a single license.

 

PERFORMING A SILENT INSTALL WITH AUTOMATIC ACTIVATION

To activate automatically your XPress installation, you will need to edit the install.sh script and fill corresponding activation data. Before editing the installer script, you should copy the installer.sh and the XPress.pkg files to the writable location on your Mac (e.g. Documents folder). You can use TextEdit.app or any other text editor software to edit activation data in the install.sh script. To activate XPress with License ID and Password, uncomment (remove leading #) the following lines in install.sh and replace sample values with actual values:

NOTE: Replace 12345678 with your License ID and a1B2cD3eF with your password.

 

To activate XPress with IP Site License ID:

NOTE: Replace 12345678-1 with your IP Site License ID.

 

After filling options in the install.sh script:

  1. Run Terminal.app
  2. Navigate to the folder with modified install.sh file:
  3. Run installer script with elevated rights:

 

NOTE REGARDING IP SITE LICENSES
Clients must run XPress the first time from a computer with an active Internet connection from behind the public IP address used to setup the IP Site License. Once activated clients can run the software off or outside of the network for up to 120 days. After 120 days, they will be required to run XPress from behind the public IP address. The XPress client will attempt to renew the client license once per day. Each time the client license is renewed the 120 timer resets.

 

XPress Silent Install for Windows

The XPress software can be installed silently (without displaying any dialogs) with the following optional actions:

  • Automatic activation using:
    • License ID & Password
    • IP Site License ID
  • Managing "Check for updates automatically on program startup” feature behavior.

 

License activation requires an active Internet connection. All operations assumes using elevated command prompt: run cmd.exe with administrator rights.

If you want to change behavior of "check for updates during startup" mechanism, use the AUTOUPDATESCHECK switch in the command line.

To enable automatic check for updates use the following command:
